Road Trip Workouts
Today’s freeways aren’t like they used to be even a handful of years ago. Even when you get outside of the city, they are much more congested and frustrating. There’s always some guy that just parks himself in the left-hand lane and refuses move (it’s called the “passing lane” for a reason, buddy). Of course, there are still some places throughout the country that provide a serene driving pleasure. And even with the mild aggravation, there’s still something wonderfully exciting and liberating about hitting the open road. We are very fortunate to live in such a vast, geographically diverse land. The majestic beauty of the scenery in the United States never ceases to amaze me.
My grandfather always used to say, “Drive ‘til you arrive alive.” Most of us know that we should inspect our car before we leave, stop every couple hours to stretch our legs every couple hours and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. But, we also can’t forget to enjoy the trip. Sometimes, that means playing road games with the family (“Slug Bug!” “Ouch!!!”), taking in the sights or just having the opportunity to either be alone or have great conversations with your companion, depending on the circumstances.
We’ve all had the experience of dozing off at the wheel. Doing that almost violent head jerk back to alertness. Then, there’s the number of silly things we do to stay awake including, opening the window, turning up the radio, splashing water on our face, slapping ourselves and any number of other activities that we convince ourselves will work. In actuality they are mostly just temporary fixes that won’t last for long. If you really want to wake the body up and be prepared to log some more miles, you need to fully engage the body by getting the blood pumping and the muscles activated. Hint: You can’t do this while sitting in the driver’s seat.
So, pull the car over at the first safe opportunity get out and get to work. Jogging, jumping jacks and push-ups are fine, but if you really want to do the job, get out your VersaStick. Since this complete home gym will fit in a carry-on bag, it’ll easily go in your trunk. Plus, with three different levels of resistance bands and the ability to perform more than 120 exercises, VersaStick will give you plenty of options to stimulate an anaerobic response in your muscle tissue. You’ll find that the included door anchor works just as well in a car door as the door in your house.
So, next time you pack up and hit the road, don’t forget your fitness equipment. Whether you are driving cross country on a vacation or even just in a rental car for a short business trip, you’ll find VersaStick is to be as valuable as your jack. You might even enjoy your little roadside workouts so much that you stop to enjoy them even when it isn’t a necessary preventive measure. Drive safely.
